Problem

A metropolitan city in the Midwest needed help creating an easy way for users to see accurate bus times as multiple buses were arriving at the same time, making it hard for users to see when a certain bus was arriving.

Brief: 

1. Ensure any rider can tell when each of the buses arrives at the Washington & State bus stop.

2. Ensure that all riders can tell how much time they have to get to the Washington & State stop.

3. Allow riders to see a list of future arrival times at the bus stop.

Audience

Midwestern transit users 

Solution

In order to answer all the requirements from the brief, I first created a home screen that shows users buses near their location as well as when the bus is arriving and how much time they have to get to the bus. I also created a separate page user can navigate to see future bus arrival times at a specific bus stop.

Survey

I had 26 participants aged 18-45, both male and female answer questions that ranged from do you based on the results of questions asking what they liked most about a transit app they already use and what they would like to see in future transit apps, users valued aesthetically pleasing and easy to use transportation apps. This is a key point I will use later in the define phase when thinking about how to build the app itself.

Interviews 

I conducted interviews, which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the participant's behaviors and needs. 

Pain points from interview number 1:

Bus delays
Not enough seats.
Took more time to get to the destination by bus.
Hard to have an ETA about arrival time to his destination.

Pain points from interview number 2:

Sometimes busses are not accurate in arriving time.
Sometimes it’s hard to find the specific bus number.
She doesn’t feel safe around some people in some neighborhoods.

Pain points from interview number 3:

She does not feel safe since Covid and prefers not to be in crowded places.
